NEW ROUTE AT THE KNOBS...

During the summer of 1998 Several of us decided to add some additional anchor bolts at "The Knobs" in Dunbar, PA. There were several climbs that were badly in need of top rope anchor bolts. When the consensus decided it was a good idea, we placed the anchors. At the same time there was a line that I had been eyeing up. One of the Knobs pioneers, Carl Samples told me that the route had been attempted several times years ago with no successful completions and that it was an open project. We decided to place top rope anchors and chains to make setup easier and much more safe than tying off to the old dead trees at the top of the block. With the anchors in place I worked the route for several weeks before finally completing the route in August of 1998. I named the route "The Terror of Tiny Tim" using inspiration from the route Terror of Tiny Tom 5.10b, one of my first Knobs leads. Based on other ratings at "The Knobs" this route should be solid 5.12b ranked right up there with Grillers in the Mist at 5.12a/b. Any other opinions on the grading of this route would be greatly appreciated. Hope you enjoy the pictures

NEW ROUTE AT ELK ROCK... Oct. 98

One sunny day in Ocotober while doing some Off-roading with Scott Richards, I happened to stumble across several large blocks on Chestnut ridge. Upon inspection, we found there wasn't a whole lot of rock to be climbed. Several quality looking climbs did jump out at us. We had already been climbing since 6:00a.m. and were too exhausted to climb. So the following week, I made plans with Bill Sparrow to check out. We set it up on top rope and worked the route only making it about 1/3 of the way up the first day. Several days later Scott Richards and I went back to take another shot at it. Since Scott was with me the first day, I let him have an on-site attempt at the route. He found it to be difficult just as I did during my previous attempts. After he gave his best shot, I tied in and got on the route completing it first try. We decided to name the route October (for the month it was climbed) and gave it a rating of 5.11b. Below are the pictures, Enjoy!
