Overview:
This is a beauty of an area with a ton of potential. It is located in State Game Lands No. 51 in Dunbar. It is home to some of the best climbing in South Western Pennsylvania. It contains Sport routes, Mixed climbs that have both fixed/bolted protection as well as the need to place tradtional pro to complete the route, and fully Trad climbs where pro needs to be placed the entire route. This area is located in the proximity of The Knobs and The Gasline/Fish Rocks making it a premium destination to spend a weekend of climbing among these 3 great areas. It is a great destination even for the beginner leader with sport and trad routes ranging from 5.5 up. It is very similar to the climbing found at Coopers Rocks further South on Chestnut Ridge in WV. It has a lot of "floating blocks" that have pulled away from the hillside creating many interesting places to climb. In the summer when its too hot to climb anywhere else, the corridors of The Lost Crag stay a happy 70 degrees or so. I happened to find these rocks in the winter of 1998 on a trip up to The Knobs. I saw them way in the distance. Across the valley from the Knobs. The following weekend, I took my trusty dog Brodie and went hiking to bushwack my way to the new rocks. It took us about 4 hours of dense bushwacking to get there, but upon arrival it was worth the effort. That spring Tom Kopler and I made several trips up there putting up several routes (In the thick of it and Pumper). Currently this area has about 65 routes. A big thanks goes out to everyone who has been helping out and contributing to the bolt fund. If you would like to do your part and contribute please send a donation to:

Getting There:
From the intersection (light) of route 119 South and Crawford Ave. in Connellsville go south on 119 towards Uniontown. At 1/2 mile from the intersection you will pass a BP gas station on your left. Continue south on 119 south until you come to a traffic light. At the traffic light make a left onto SR1053 towards Dunbar (there will be an auto salvage yard on your left). Approximately 1 mile from the light you will enter Dunbar, cross a small bridge then railroad tracks and the road will bear right passing a funeral home on your left. At the Stop sign go left and cross Dunbar creek. The road will bear right after crossing the creek. Dunbar creek will now be on your right. Follow the road 2.8miles from the bridge until it breaks away from the creek at the State Game Lands building (a small yellow building with a cyclone fence around it).

Lower lot directions: Just before that building, take the gravel/dirt road to the right (the entrance has been narrowed down by using guardrail and is hard to miss). The dirt road will continue to follow Dunbar creek. Follow it approx. 1 mile to a large gravel parking lot on the left. Park your vehicle in the back right corner of the lot facing the large stones and the gas line. Time to hike: Get on the gravel/dirt road to the right of your car (the right of the 2 gates) follow it up a short steep hill and continue at a lesser grade for approximately 3/4 mile. Cross the wooden bridge. After the bridge, take the first road to the right. Hike up past the small animal food plot on your right until you come to a grassy field on your right. In the back left corner of this field you will find an old logging road. Hike up the logging road following the orange surveyors tape through several intersections. You'll climb over an old, LARGE, dead tree lying in the middle of the road. Continue up the hill until the road veers left and starts to parallel the hill. Hike apprx. 100yrds parallel to the hill and watch for a large stone carin on the right. At this carin you will find a short trail to the right. This trail leads directly to "Entrance Block". You are now at the Lost Crag.

Upper lot directions for the Climb-B-Que: Continue past the gamelands building for about a mile the road will start up a steep hill. Partway up this hill the road will make a 180 degree turn to the right. (in the middle of the turn you will pass Kingan Hill Rd. on your left). Follow the road up around the 180 degree turn to the top of the hill. At the top of the hill you will pass Smalley Auto Wreckers on your right. Continue past Smalley's for approximately 1 mile you will go up a small hill and around a corner. Watch for a gravel road on your right. (You will see a HUNT SAFELY sign at the road). For reference - directly opposite of the gravel road you will see a dirt pulloff with a view into the valley below. Make a right turn onto the gravel road and follow it 1 mile to the gate and parking area. This is where we are meeting! The hike in to the rocks will be approximately 20min. Any questions email me!
