Overview:
This area is not that difficult to find. I happened to find these rocks while driving around about 2 years ago. Limited in quantity, but not quality, this area houses some rather quality routes. This was an area of a near mishap. In October of 1998, Scott Richards and I were working on putting a very clean line that caught our eye (eventually OCTOBER 5.11b) we rigged the climb on top rope off of some small trees at the top of the rocks. Everything seemed normal that day as we worked the route, until we decided we were finished and unsuccessful at the route. We went to the top to break down the anchors and what we found when we got to the top was that a creature of some sort ate though every piece of our 1" tubular webbing down to about a dozen strands of fiber or less. Amazed and alarmed that we climbed without the webbing failing, we wrote it off to a one time experience. We came back a few days later and the same thing happened, this time we monitored the webbing every 1/2 hr. or so. We decided that we weren't about to end our climbing career over a varmit chewing through our webbing, we came back the following day and installed 2 Supershuts at the top of the route. These are the kind with the spring loaded gates that you can clip into at the top of a sport climb. To rig the climb now all we had to do was just lay down on top of the rocks and drop our rope into the shuts. We could watch the anchor at all times and not have to worry about the (still unseen) creature chewing his was to our death. This area is also a destination for people that come party and litter. Please do your part to clean it up. Pick up any cans and litter that you find laying around. Every little bit helps! Thanks

There is also some bouldering on the smaller rocks around, check 'em out!

Getting There:
From Route 119 light, Turn left into Dunbar, Follow signs along Dunbar Creek towards Ohiopyle. At Apprx. 3 miles you will start a steep climb up the hillside, 1/2 way up the hill there is a sharp 180 degree right turn in the road. At this turn make a left onto Kingham Hill Rd. At 1.8 miles, the hard top road turns to dirt. At 2.5 miles the road goes down a steep pitch. Near the bottom of this hill there is a road to the right with a sign that says CAMP CARMEL with an arrow to the right. (That way takes you to Krahlick). Instead of taking the right, continue downhill to where you drive through a stream. Cross through the stream. Continue up this road about 1mile until you start to climb a steep hill near the top of the hill and before the T you will see the rocks on your right. The good climbs are impossible to miss.

Season:
People climb here all year round. The bugs can get bad in summer and fall, so bring insect repellant.
Camping:
Camping is illegal on State Gamelands property.
