Derry High Rocks
Derry High Rocks are located near Latrobe, PA. Latrobe lies between Ligonier and Greensburg. High rocks are currently off limits to climbers. The Access Fund is currently trying to obtain the land from the owners. It is a nice area with several different types of climbs. The classic climb "5.10 Crack" is the most obvious climb there. It is completely covered in chalk marks. It goes directly up an overhanging full hand jam crack. This crack is actually the crux of the climb. After the crack it turns into some face climbing which brings you to an obvious ledge. The next 15' or so is 5.2-5.3, which has a nice transition to one of the nicest roofs in western PA. "5.10" crack can be climbed on top rope or trad lead. There is also a nice block called Jimi Hendrix (Due to the fact that Jimi Hendrix is spray painted on the rock. This provides some very nice 5.10 to 5.12 friction climbs at a total length of 20'. They can be done free or on top rope. If you ever happen to be in the area and Derry High Rocks is open to climbers do yourself a favor and check it out! Its well worth it.
