CASPARIS ROCKS, CONNELLSVILLE PA
Property Ownership: Private Property (Thomas Foley), Climbing is NOT permitted!
Nearest Town: Connellsville, PA
Overview:
Casparis is another older Western PA crag. Its home to several old aid lines whose bolts are now nothing but rusted old heads. Climbers were always welcome at this crag, until people started dumping garbage on this private property. In 1997, The access fund was trying to gain permission to climb at the rocks once again with no luck. This is another crag closed to the ignorance of others.
History:
These rocks have been used by climbers since the early 50's. They are owned by Thomas Foley who lives in the house on the left before you get to the rocks. He no longer wishes to have climbers on his property. Hopefully one day in the future an agreement can be reached with Tom to allow climbers to once again climb here.
Getting There:
From Route 119S. turn left at Pittsburgh St. light. Follow out crossing over main st. Continue until you come to a T in the road. Make a left and follow until the road turns to dirt. Go through the S turns and start up the rutted steep hill. Rock ledge is on the right of the road along this hill. Season: You can climb here all year round. The bugs can get bad in summer and early fall, so bring insect repellent. Look out for the nudist that hangs out at the top of the rocks. He looks weird, but is harmless. Camping: Camping or tresspassing is not permitted.
Local Eats:
1. Sheetz - At the intersection of Route 119 and 982. MTO Subs are great snacks during climbing they also sell Gatorade.
