Krahlick is another nice Western PA sandstone crag. It is located between Ohiopyle and Dunbar PA. This is a tough one to find without someone showing you where it is. If you can find it, you'll enjoy it. This is one of the most commonly climbed areas in South Western PA . It has quite a few routes ranging from 5.1 to 5.12. The climbs are primarily top roped, with a maximum height of 110'. Quite a few routes can be done trad lead, so bring your rack. Dont park your car too far away from the main area. The locals are a little rowdy if you know what I mean. Krahlack is one of the smoothest rocks around, unlike a lot of the rocks in our area which are very corse and gritty. Krahlack is used for some local climbing classes so try to avoid it on the weekends.
Getting
There:
From Route 119 light, Turn left into Dunbar, Follow signs along Dunbar
Creek towards Ohiopyle. At Apprx. 3 miles you will start a steep climb
up the hillside, 1/2 way up the hill there is a sharp 180 degree right
turn in the road. At this turn make a left onto Kingham Hill Rd. At 1.8
miles, the hard top road turns to dirt. At 2.5 miles the road goes down
a steep pitch to a Y. Turn right. At 3.5 miles turn right into the first
parking area/field. If you're in a non 4 wheel drive vehicle, park here
and continue on foot. Go through a large mud puddle and veer left across
some runoff ruts through a second set of 2 mud puddles. Park here (This
is the end of the road) Follow the trail apprx. 20 yrds to the top of
the rocks on your left
People climb here all year round. The bugs can get bad in summer and fall, so bring insect repellant.
Camping is illegal on State Gamelands property.
